Engine is the “heart” of rocket and is the flying engine. Mr. Gao Fenglin is the person who welds the “heart” of rocket. Since 1980 he graduated from the technical school, Mr. Gao Fenglin has always been conducting the welding jobs on the rocket engine. Over the years, more than 200 difficulties have been tackled. He has saved or avoided about 35 million yuan in economic losses, and made outstanding contributions in his post.

Hard work, welding the rocket heart

He has successfully completed the welding of the largest total arrow vibration test tower in Asia, repaired the Soviet cartography 154 aircraft engine and he was pointed by Professor Ding Zhaozhong and successfully solved the problem of the antimatter detector project. Gao Fenglin's resume records many brilliant moments, which are closely related to the development of the national space industry.

In the 1990s of last century, the new large thrust oxygen and hydrogen engine was designed for the long three series launch vehicle of which the welding for the large nozzle was once developed as a bottleneck for the development. X light detection showed that there were more than 200 cracks at the time of welding. At the quality analysis conference, Gao Fenglin was bold enough to speak his mind in the voice of many technical experts. He thought it was “false crack”. After cutting experiments, a 200 times microscope showed that his judgment was correct. For more than 30 years, Gao Fenglin has always insisted on the world-class difficulty of the engine nozzle welding technology, taking the country as the priority, taking root in the first line, having the courage to climb and dedicating himself to the world class difficulties. He has made contributions for the successful implementation of the national key projects such as the Beidou navigation, the Chang'e exploration, the manned space flight and the development of the new generation launch vehicle of the long march No.Five.

Dedication to study, be willing to serve

Gao Fenglin was dubbed as the person who got married with the products. His love of the aerospace industry and its position has been integrated into the blood. In order to practice the basic skills, he takes the chopsticks to practice wire feeding silk when he eats. When drinking water, he carries the cup filled with water to practice stability. He takes a piece of iron to practice the endurance in rest and watches the flow of molten iron at high temperature. In order to meet the launch the satellites with large capacity and large tonnage abroad, China has built the largest total arrow vibration test tower in Asia. In order to ensure the best performance of the vibrating beam, it needs continuous operation at high temperature, and the surface temperature of the weldment reaches hundreds of degrees Celsius. Gao Fenglin's hands were roasted with string of blisters. He clenched his teeth and insisted on passing the qualified vibrating beam. During the process of welding the first large nozzle, Gao Fenglin often had to maintain an intolerable welding posture, and conducted welding for one hour.

Talents cultivation, preaching and training skills

Gao Fenglin takes preaching and teaching his skills to others as another important mission. He advocated “the master trains the apprentice”, “one trains another and “cultivating talents in welding” which have been widely recognized and applied. His apprentices got good results in the domestic and foreign welding competitions. So far, he has cultivated five national skilled hands, one central enterprise technician and one spaceflight technician. He has published more than 30 papers in various journals. Every year, more than 120 classes of theory and practice are taught, with thousands of listeners and students.

Gao Fenglin has been the leader of argon arc welding team in engine workshop since 1993 and has been in 22 years. In 2005, the group was named “Gao Fenglin Group” by the National Defense Post and Telecommunications Union and Space Science and Technology Group, which became the first group named by the model of the aerospace industry. Since then, the group has been awarded the honorary title of “National Worker Pioneer Number”, the national study type group, the national demonstration team of safety production, the “benchmarking” of the learning type red flag group of the central state owned enterprises. In 2011, as the first batch of 50 master workrooms named by the National Department of Human Resources, Gao Fenglin's national skill master studio was officially listed as a base for talented people.
