Zhang Dongwei has worked hard to study shipbuilding technology and inherited the spirit of the craftsman, becoming the backbone worker of constructing top product LNG ship and the container rolling ship which weights 45 thousand ton and is the world’s most advanced and most difficult construction. He is the blue collar elite. He wrote a dedication song dedicated to the national marine equipment construction with his youth.

LNG ship is internationally recognized as a “three high” ship with high technology, high difficulty and high added value. It is known as “the Pearl of the shipbuilding industry crown”. Its construction technology is only mastered by a few shipyards in developed countries such as Europe, America and Japan and South Korea. Zhang Dongwei is one of the first LNG ship builders in China. The moment he contacts LNG ship, he decided to make contributions to the construction of China LNG ship. In the process of construction, Zhang Dongwei carried forward the spirit of “unity and struggle for first class” in East Shanghai China. He is willing to work hard and dedicate and solved many difficult problems with his own intelligence and made outstanding contributions to the smooth construction of the LNG series ship.

The containment system is the core of LNG ship and the welding is the top priority. Most of the Yin tile used in the enclosure system is the 0.7mm thick Yin watt steel. The Yin tile welding is like “embroidery” on the steel plate. But he is able to withstand the loneliness, engage in the research of the welding process, constantly practice his own mind, and cultivate his own concentration.

In the process of production, Zhang Dongwei paid much attention to the accumulation of experience, and participated in the compilation of “Research on the welding process of the 140 thousand cubic meters of the LNG ship’s Yin tile cross connection”, “The automatic welding process of the LNG ship Yin tile manual welding”, “The guide book of the end column and the repair process”, and “The main defects and repair plan during the MO₂ automatic welding and the MO₃ flange stud”, which play a positive role in improving the production efficiency of LNG ship and ensuring the quality of products.

Over the past 10 years, Zhang Dongwei has taught his knowledge and experience to his colleagues. In the form of teacher training apprenticeship, in the 10 years from 2005 to 2015, Zhang Dongwei has instructed and trained the Yin Title G certificate, which is the highest grade and manual welding of SP3SP4SP7, and trained more than 40 MO1 - MO8 argon arc welding automatic welders, and 6 people of Yin tile dismantling plate workers, and more than 30 complex type welders who have mastered a variety of welding types, two of which are group leaders, and the rest are the backbone of the workshop.

Zhang Dongwei won the bronze medal of the welder competition of the 2005 Central Enterprise Professional Skills Competition, the first prize for the excellent welder performance in the Twentieth China Welding Fair in 2006, the title of “technical skilled” of China Ship Group Company in 2012, and the title of “national skilled hand” in 2013.
